Bleu Flames

Head outside of the city a little bit and you will stumble upon a gem: Bleu Flames! This fondue restaurant is located in Sherwood Park in an unassuming plaza but it’s an amazing spot for a girl’s night out, date night, special occasion or if you just want to treat yourself to a nice dinner. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed fondue at a restaurant and I forgot how fun it could be! I was invited to check out Bleu Flames for a girl’s night out special and wanted to share my experience here.

Though my meal at Bleu Flames was complimentary, no blog post was expected and all opinions are my own.

To start off our meal, my girlfriends and I tried a few drinks from their cocktail menu. All the drinks here are quite presentable and there are a number of options to try, great if you are an adventurous person. There’s also a large wine selection if you prefer wine to accompany your meal. I really enjoyed the Mint-Cacao Martini and Summer Flames during my visit.

All of the fondue at Bleu Flames is made table-side so you get to watch your food come to life right in front of you. Each fondue course also comes with a platter of items to dip with your fondue.

The first course of the night was cheese fondue, which was accompanied with a platter of veggies, apples and bread. I was able to try two new cheese fondues during my visit. These cheese fondues had a base of white wine, butter and garlic. The first fondue was a mix of 4 cheeses including mozzarella, swiss, gruyere and parmesan, mixed with a basil and sundried tomato blend. The second cheese fondue consisted of old cheddar mixed with mozzarella, applewood bacon and fresh black pepper.

Both were very tasty but I personally preferred the 4 cheese fondue as it was creamier and more rich. The cheddar fondue was smoky and hearty, great if you enjoy cheddar.

Next course: salad and soup. I ended up taking the opportunity to try one of each item as my group was large enough. We got to try the Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup and Roasted Herb & Tomato Soup. For salads, we got the House Watermelon Salad, Smoked Salmon Salad and Strawberry Almond Salad.

While their salad and soup options are all viable choices, I personally enjoyed the cream of wild mushroom soup and house watermelon salad best. The cream of wild mushroom soup was savoury and creamy! If you are a mushroom fan, you’ll likely enjoy this soup. The watermelon salad was very refreshing and light, a perfect dish to have in between two fondue courses. The strawberry almond salad was refreshing too but the dressing was a bit more tart than I normally prefer.

To end things off a sweet note, we finished our meal with a chocolate fondue course. This fondue was a blend of three chocolates – dark, milk and white, mixed with orange liqueur. Regular dippers for the chocolate course include a variety of fruit and sweets or you can add on an exotic fruit plate, which consists of mostly imported fruits such as cantaloupes, kiwi, and nectarines. I was expecting something really ‘out there’ for the exotic plate but they are fairly safe options. Fondue-wise, the chocolate was smooth and delicious and had noticeable hints of citrus from the orange liqueur. It was great!

Despite not having a “real” entree during my visit, I still felt very full and satisfied by the end. They do offer cooking fondue with various protein options such as steak, chicken or seafood if you prefer that in between the other courses. When ordering at Bleu Flames, you can order fondue courses individually or there are a number of combo specials that you can take advantage of as well. In terms of prices, I find that their menu is fairly reasonable and quite comparable to restaurants on the mid-higher end range that offer full course menus. For example, their 4 course combo for 2 is around $125 and would cover appetizers, main dishes and dessert. Whether you order a combo or by the course though, it’s a really unique, fun and tasty interactive experience that I’d definitely recommend checking out. Their space is large and offers a fine dining ambiance. Keep an eye out on their socials for promos and deals!

    1. I definitely want to try this place! I do hope that one can order cheese fondue as a main and not be forced to take other cooking fondue courses as well.

      1. It’s worth checking out! You do not have to get the cooking fondue, I believe there are special combos without it or you can just order the cheese fondue by itself 🙂
