Caramunchies

Caramunchies

When I first came across Caramunchies on Instagram, I was intrigued. I love a good snack and.. I won’t lie, it was also the super cute logo and bright and playful IG feed that drew me in. How can you stray away from awesome marketing?

She didn’t… but luckily, she was kind enough to give me some to try anyway. So disclaimer: I was provided with these delicious snacks but all thoughts and opinions are honest and my own!

To be fair, I wasn’t sure what to expect with Caramunchies. I never really thought of cornflakes as a snack – maybe as a breakfast option or something but not as something to just munch on. Let’s just say I was wrong to think this because Alysia has turned a common cereal treat into a delicious and addicting snack. I am guilty of going through a whole container in one sitting!

So, what is Caramunchies? In short, they are caramel treats. More particularly, as you may have guessed, they are caramel cornflake treats! The salted caramel is my favourite part of Caramunchies. It’s soft, creamy, but still perfectly chewy. I dunno how to really describe it other than saying it’s GOOD. You can definitely tell that the batches are made fresh – and with love! Paired with the crispy cornflakes, you get the perfect combination of sweet and savoury, crunchy and chewy, all in a perfect bite-sized treat. The ideal snack!

I also shared the treats with family and friends and received positive feedback. Some said that it reminded them of caramel popcorn.

Currently, Caramunchines comes in 4 flavours. There is Salted Original, Toasted Coconut Amaretto, Chocolate Drizzled, and PB&J.

Salted Original – this flavour is the simplest but also one that you can’t go wrong with. With no extra toppings, you can enjoy the mix of freshly made salted caramel and crunchy cornflakes as it is. I liked this one but I have to say that I prefer the Coconut Amaretto or Chocolate Drizzled over it.

Salted Original

Toasted Coconut Amaretto – On top of the original combination, you get hints of coconut and amaretto in this one. It brings hints of fruity freshness to the sweet and salty combination. It smells amazing but tastes even better. If you’re a fan of coconut, I highly recommend trying this one!

Chocolate Drizzled – I thought that a flavour combination of chocolate and caramel would be super sweet, but to my surprise, it wasn’t bad! The Cacao Barry Chocolate that makes up the chocolate drizzle is quite rich. Due to the dark chocolate, I personally thought that it was more bitter than the other flavours but it was still a hit in my books.

PB&J – this flavour was my least favourite. I’m not a big fan of the peanut butter and jelly combo so it didn’t appeal to me as much. When you open a container of these treats, you’ll notice that the jelly scent is very strong. However, upon eating it, the peanut butter flavour stands out much more. Although I’m not a fan of the classic pb&j, I think that the flavours were mixed pretty well here. It’s great that this flavour is an option because I don’t know of many peanut butter and jelly snacks out there.

Keep an eye out for more flavours to come. Alysia has mentioned that she is working on some more options, including a coffee flavour. Perfect for those of you who love coffee!

So, after officially trying all the flavours, I can confirm that the caramel and cornflake combination make a pretty great treat. My personal flavour was the Coconut Amaretto. But, regardless of what flavour you try, Caramunchies is delicious to snack on and can easily satisfy whatever you’re craving – sweet, salty, crunchy, soft! I also love that these treats are conveniently packed in a reusable container. It makes it easy to take them on the go and handy for whenever you just need something to munch on.

Caramunchies is currently sold at local markets (such as the Grant Macewan Pop Up Shops or the City Market in downtown). You can check out the website to see more exact locations and dates. Containers are around $6/each or you can get multiple containers for a discounted price (i.e. 4/$20) – the perfect excuse to try more than one flavour at a time. Keep an eye out for these tasty treats.

Moving forward, Alysia also plans to roll out an online store and have them available at a local restaurant for pick up. In the meantime, you can contact her through IG or email for ordering details. Check out Caramunchies and try a flavour, you won’t be disappointed!

Special thank you to Alysia for letting me try out Caramunchies! All the best 🙂
