Where to get a Coffee Flight in Edmonton

There are two kinds of flights I like… travel flights and coffee flights! I’ve noticed a recent uptick with cafes offering coffee flights in Edmonton and I think it’s such a great concept.

Whether you are someone who likes to try a variety of drinks or you’re looking to figure out what your go-to drink on their menu is, a flight gives you the perfect opportunity to sample a couple of different drinks at the same time, without the need to pay extra. The cafes I’ve visited have all offered 3-4 drinks in their flight, served as a smaller portion. Normally it equates to 1-2 regular sized drinks. Here’s where you can enjoy a flight of coffee in Edmonton!

Aspen Coffee Roasters

9951 76 Ave NW
Aspen Coffee Roasters was the first cafe that I tried a coffee flight at so I guess you can say it’s where my love for flights really started! The Aspen Coffee Flight is ~$14 and comes with 4 drinks. They normally feature a number of their seasonal flavours in a flight but substitutions are permitted and from what I can tell, it seems like they’re pretty flexible so you can essentially build your own flight too. I have enjoyed the seasonal offerings thus far. Sometimes the flavours are not ones that I’d typically gravitate towards so it’s nice to have that opportunity to try something different without having to commit to a full-sized version.

On occasion, I have felt that some of the drinks in my flight taste similar to each other assuming that they have a similar coffee base. Nonetheless, still a great option to have 4 drinks at once or share with a friend. They also have a food menu. As a perk, this cozy cafe is centrally located and has plenty of parking but just a heads up that it does get quite busy during peak hours so if you’re planning to stay a while, you may want to get there ahead of time to scout for a spot!

Rhubarb Cafe & Cocktails

12020 107 Ave NW
Located in Manchester Square, Rhubarb Cafe & Cocktails is such a unique spot! As described by their name – not only are they a cafe, they also serve cocktails and have pretty late hours compared to other coffee spots. Notably, they have several different flight options here including a Lavender Flight, a Toast Flight and an Espresso Martini Flight! I visited specifically for the Lavender Flight since I was on a mini mission to try all of the coffee flights in the city.

There were 4 lavender drink options on the flight menu but the flight itself comes with 3 6oz drinks for $15. If I’m being honest, I am not typically one to lean towards floral drinks but I gotta say, the Lavender Flight was done really well! Though I’ve enjoyed all of the flights in this post, the one at Rhubarb Cafe & Cocktails might actually be my favourite flight since it was so unique and memorable. Each drink was cohesive in theme but still had a different and distinct flavour profile of its own. They all had just the right amount of lavender, without being overly floral. I really liked the Lavender Chai in particular! I find that sometimes floral drinks can be a miss but not the case here.

In terms of interior, the space is open and modern with plenty of space, there is also an upstairs seating area too. Manchester Square spaces are fairly European-inspired and this is unlike any other cafe I’ve been to. The plaza has a parking lot of its own so it’s super accessible and worth a visit!

Boxcar Coffee

#1 – 11926 129 Ave NW
Coined as the “Boxcar Hopper,” Boxcar Coffee Shop has also created their own version of a coffee flight. Their flight comes with 4 drinks and includes a Mexican Horchata, a Chai, a Mint Mocha and a Caramel Macchiato.

I appreciated how they included non-coffee options in their flight. Of the 4 drinks, I liked the horchata best and preferred that and the Chai more than the coffee based drinks, which I found to be very similar in flavour. I would’ve loved for the mocha and macchiato to be a bit more distinct from each other but I guess that’s a good sign that their coffee is strong and consistent!

Location wise, parking is available right out front but being in a residential area, there is also more parking around the corner. Their space is quaint, eclectic and eye-catching with their pops of teal and yellow. There are pastries and baked goods to accompany your cafe order. Having come during some peak hours, I found the cafe space to be more intimate than anticipated. I’d love to come back for their patio during warmer days!

Be Coffee

11015 26 Ave NW
Be Coffee is a cafe located near Century Park and recently introduced a coffee flight on their menu too. Their flight is the most affordable I’ve seen. For $12, you can try 4 mini drinks including a: Canadiano, mocha latte, flavoured latte and affagato. For the flavoured latte, you can choose from many options as they have quite the list of syrups. Substitutions are allowed but as is, I thought the flight here had a good variety since it offered different 4 kinds of coffee based drinks – not necessarily just lattes.

As someone who regularly orders lattes/milk+coffee based drinks, I naturally gravitated towards the mocha and latte first. I selected Salted Caramel for the flavoured latte and while it was good, the mocha was my favourite of the 4 drinks. Though I would likely substitute the canadiano and affagato for myself next time, it was nice to be able to sample them in this flight since I wouldn’t normally order them as full drinks for myself. Another reason why flights are a great choice – they give you a chance to try something new!

Be Coffee is part of Louvre at Century Park. Parking out front is free for the first 60 minutes when you register your plate. but after 1 hour, payment is required so keep that in mind if you’re planning a visit. There is a decent amount of seating at this cafe and their menu also has food options.

All in all, this coffee trend is one that I hope sticks around for a while as I love having the chance to try different drinks simultaneously and prefer the smaller sizes. I can be indecisive sometimes so a flight helps by allowing me to select multiple options at once! Feel free to reach out or let me know in the comments if there are any other spots to add to this list.
