Chartier

Chartier

I live so very close to Chartier and every time I pass by, it’s always packed so one can only assume that it must be good, right? I’ve been meaning to check it out for the longest time but it wasn’t until recently that I finally got a chance to check them out when we spontaneously decided to get some brunch.  It’s not a new addition to the foodie scene by any means but I would still love to rave about my experience there nonetheless. Here’s a very quick recap as a first timer!

I’ll start off by saying that all the good stuff you have heard about Chartier is true. It is cozy, rustic and inviting. The food is fresh and local and the staff and service are amazing. I can’t wait to come back again!

IMG_2301.jpgWe got some drinks to start. The Cucumber Lemonade ($5) was refreshing with a real punch of citrus. If you needed something to wake you up and start off your day, this would be a good pick. I got tea ($3.50) which was from a local tea brand.. I don’t remember the exact name but it was a chamomile-mint tea and it was so good! I think I refilled my pot about 6 times.

My bf got the Salmon Benedict ($15). It featured your classic egg’s benny with house cured salmon, capers, cream cheese and a smoked dill hollandaise sauce. He claimed the dish was a bit salty but still enjoyed it overall. The salmon was really delicious apparently! I didn’t get to try much of the dish myself so I can’t say much.

My brother tried the Breakfast Poutine ($14). Let’s just say that if there’s a place that I had to eat poutine from for the rest of my life, I’d choose Chartier. I’ve heard good things about their poutine but the breakfast poutine was just something else! Topped with bacon, a poached egg, cheese curds and gravy, this dish was so satisfying and worth all the calories. I was picking off my brother’s dish the entire time, oops!

I decided to keep it more simple for myself and tried The Eggs / Les oeufs ($14). It was basically a traditional breakfast with eggs, sausage (although there is a choice of bacon as well), potatoes and sourdough toast. It was definitely not as exciting as the breakfast poutine but still fit the bill for a Sunday morning brunch. I especially loved the blueberry jam that they had.. super fresh! Potatoes could be a bit more seasoned but overall, a great dish.

After a very filling meal, we finished it off with a small dessert. As a big fan of Ferrero Rocher, I was immediately drawn to the Ferrero “Chartier” ($5). It was chocolate ganache rolled in hazelnuts, served with a caramel crisp; their own twist on the infamous chocolate. Although tasty, I’d opt for one of their bigger desserts on my next visit.

All in all, Chartier was a real treat for me. Truthfully, I don’t stick around my area of residence often but Chartier definitely adds some charm to Beaumont. I’m glad I have another place worth checking out closer to home. I look forward to coming back and trying out their dinner menu.

Notably, Chartier uses locally sourced ingredients and also has seasonal specials. During my visit, I also peeked at their storefront bread window, super neat concept. Definitely check out Chartier if you ever get the chance. For those who say that the drive is too far, it’s worth it!
