Photolog: Rush Bowls

I was recently invited to check out Rush Bowls and wanted to share some photos! Rush Bowls offers all-natural fruit and vegetable bowls, as well as all-natural smoothies. While they *look* like any regular smoothie joint, Rush Bowls sets themselves apart by being an advocate for “all-natural” because their bowls and smoothies don’t have any artificial sugars, additives, and preservatives.

All bowls are topped with organic granola and honey. Some might already have fruit too, while others don’t – it really depends on what you get! The menu has a lot of options to choose from. If you feel a little overwhelmed by it, don’t worry – you weren’t the only one. I had no idea where to start! Tip? The most popular options have a fancy “R” next to it as they are “Rush favourites.”

For $1 each, you can also choose to add toppings and supplements for some extra nutrition and body. Toppings include things like nuts and fruits – almonds, strawberries, bananas, etc., while ‘supplements’ includes protein and other vitamins to help boost your bowl/smoothie. Think energy, antioxidant, immune support, etc.

 

For those of you who are vegetarian, vegan, lactose – whatever it may be – don’t fret. Rush bowls are pretty customizable and there are different options for everyone.  For instance, you can choose from different milk options and frozen yogurt in the bowls/smoothies is optional.

So the bowls – how are they?

For myself, I tried the Yoga Bowl. The bowl was made up of banana, mango, pineapple, milk (I chose almond), frozen yogurt, and matcha green tea. Aside from the granola/honey, I also decided to add blueberries and almond slices.

While the bowl was pretty, I find that banana in any smoothie is really overpowering. This is something I should’ve remembered when ordering… oops. So, unfortunately, I didn’t taste any matcha – which was the reason I was interested in it in the first place – but at least it was nutritious and filling.

The Chai’s Mystique: banana, milk, chai, frozen yogurt, almonds, honey, cinnamon – topped with granola/honey, and cinnamon. While ordering, we thought the chai would be the star of the bowl but I was told the chai was not present and the bowl was underwhelming.

This one here is the Peach Cobbler. If you’re a fan of peach, you’ll definitely enjoy this one. There’s a real tartness to the bowl.

The Acai bowls seemed to be a hit with our group. While I’m not a big acai fan myself (I find them a little tart), the rest of the group enjoyed them! The acai bowls were definitely more flavourful than my yoga bowl and had a nice punch of berry. The beach bowl (acai, banana, mango, and guava juice) was the go-to acai bowl here.

Rush bowls are super nutritious, filling, and picturesque! However, I found that I enjoyed the smoothie more. My bowl was a little underwhelming and I think I just prefer drinking my fruits rather than eating it lol.  I did learn that you can turn any bowl into a smoothie and any smoothie into a bowl though.

I tried the Tropical Bliss, which was nice and refreshing – not to mention huge. The smoothies will definitely make you full.

Another cool thing? They make fresh ground peanut butter in store!

img_20190612_102247All in all, I think Rush Bowls is a suitable option for a healthy and nutritious snack. Their portions are large, their ingredients are fresh, and I’d say it’s an upgrade from common places like Booster Juice.

I have to admit though… the lack of parking in the area does make it less likely for me to go out of my way to go there, but if I’m in the area and wanting something fresh and healthy – I’d consider Rush Bowls as a pit stop.
