South Edmonton Common – 20 Years, 20 Winners – GIVEAWAY

I’ve been a resident of south side YEG all my life, so South Edmonton Common (SEC) has practically been a go-to place since I was young. I’ve seen the area develop over the years… even worked there for a bit, and still go to many of the stores often – it’s fair to say that I know the area like the back of my hand. Whether you’re shopping, looking for entertainment, or eating – South Edmonton Common is sure to have everything you need!

This year, South Edmonton Common is celebrating their 20th anniversary and I am so excited to announce that I’ve partnered with them for their 20 Years, 20 Winners Campaign! More details below. P.S I also have my own contest going on, details will be at the end of this post!

DISCLOSURE: This post is sponsored by South Edmonton Common and I was provided with a $100 pre-paid VISA giftcard to be involved in the campaign. Despite this, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

20 Years, 20 Winners campaign:

To celebrate this milestone, SEC is holding their 20 years, 20 winners campaign. Shoppers can enter for a chance to win a $100 pre-paid VISA gift card which can be used at any SEC retailer. The contest runs until the end of 2018, so there’s plenty of opportunities to win! From Novermber-April, there will be two winners selected at the end of every month and the last four winners will be selected in December.

To enter, all you have to do is upload a picture about South Common – this can be a selfie in SEC, a picture of SEC, your purchases from SEC, etc. – and use the hashtag #SEC20years! Make sure you also follow SEC’s social media and have your profile(s) on public so that they can view your posts. More information and contest rules can be found here. Good luck!

As a food blogger/foodie, I’m sharing some of my favourite food spots in South Common.

Joey
9911 19 Ave

Joey is a mixup between casual and upscale dining. Their contemporary vibe offers a great location for any occasion. In terms of food, my favourite sandwich is actually the Ahi Tuna Club sandwich ($18) from Joey (and I’m not just saying that because of this sponsored post!!). I’m not much of a sandwich/burger connoisseur but I can tell you that I have ahi tuna club cravings so that must tell you something good. The combination of fresh ahi tuna, pepper relish, bacon, and crispy onion ring is perfect! Despite not being much of a fish person, I actually really love ahi tuna (weird, I know) and regularly order this sandwich at Joey.

They also finally released the Osaka Style Pressed Salmon Sushi ($16) on their SEC menu and I was pleasantly surprised by this dish. Rice was soft, salmon was seared well and it was an overall yummy addition to my meal. Although Joey is not my first location pick for pressed sushi, I would definitely consider ordering it again on my next visit.

Other dishes I love here: Ravioli With Lobster Cream & Grilled Prawns ($25), the Night Market Curry Dip ($13.50), and the Crispy Mashed Potatoes (which normally come as a side).

Earls
1505 99 St

Earls is a classic in my opinion. If you follow me on Instagram, you would know that I’m at Earls pretty often for their happy hour (3-6PM / 9PM-close). In my opinion, they have one of the best happy hour menus and the service is always great at the SEC location.

My must-order dish whenever I visit is the Warm Spinach and Three Cheese Dip ($14)! It’s creamy, cheesy and so delicious. Did you know you can get additional breadsticks at no additional charge? I am also a fan of their Cajun Chicken ($21.50) which comes with a side of the best potato salad, ever. I’ve tried to remake the potato salad at home but nothing really compares.

Other dishes I love here: Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo ($18.75), Chicken, Brie + Fig Sandwich ($16.25), and Chorizo and Mushroom Hash for brunch ($15.25)

Blaze Pizza
1338 99 St

One of my favourite additions to SEC is Blaze Pizza, which opened up in the past year or so. Blaze pizza offers artisan style pizzas in a fast-food style environment. My usual order here is the build your own option for $12.85. You can choose as many or as little toppings as you’d like. The food is quick and tasty, service is always friendly, and it’s so affordable. You can dine in or take it to go, either way, you really can’t go wrong with Blaze Pizza.

My usual build your own toppings: classic red sauce, ovalini cheese (lots of this), mozzerella, turkey meatballs, mushrooms, spinach, basil, cherry tomatoes, topped with arugula and a drizzle of olive oil!

Local
1820 99 St

LOCAL continues to be my favourite spot for Fish Tacos ($15.50). I think their tacos are the best in the city and I’ve been coming here for years now because of them. The fish is always battered to a perfect crunch and I am in love with the fresh salsa on top. I also like that they use flour tortillas because I’m not a fan of corn tortillas, which other restaurants tend to use. It’s just a bonus that they’ve turned the fish tacos into an actual meal now, with fries (it was more of an appi before)!

Overall, LOCAL promises consistent taste, casual flare, and an awesome patio! On my recent trip, I also tried the Half Nachos ($10.50) which were fully loaded and great for sharing. They come with pulled chicken, cheese, olives, jalapenos, sour cream, and avocado.

Other dishes I love here: Pulled Pork Poutine ($12.50), Hand-made Guacamole and Chips ($7.75), and the Tuna Club Sandwich ($17.25).

Non-food related:

Aside from food, I was also able to use the remainder of my prepaid VISA card at Miniso – the popular Japanese dollar store that is one of SEC’s newest additions. I was first exposed to Miniso in Vancouver and I’m so glad that Edmonton finally has a few locations of their own. They sell a range of products including cosmetics, stationery, household goods, and more. Everything is super affordable and for what it is, the quality is pretty good in my opinion. If you haven’t already, I definitely recommend checking it out, you’re sure to find something cute and practical.
